The 2016 Girlterest Scholarship competition has come to an end, and we’re excited to announce this year’s winner. Drum roll, please…

Girlterest scholarship Icis McBrideIcis Tatyanna McBride of Auburn University, Alabama.

Icis inspired us with her creative writing and thinking, and with her sincere desire to pursue her dreams, without letting others define what is possible for her to achieve.

Icis will be attending the Auburn University studying Aerospace Engineering and Spanish. She plans to be a Rocket scientist.
We’re looking forward to seeing her grow and achieve her goals and inspire other young women to pursue their dreams.

Here is “Because Girls Can Be Rocket Scientists, Too” by Icis.

Each year, we award a $1,000 scholarship to one active female student enrolled in college, university or high school. This year’s essay topics were on 3 major topics: What Feminism Means to Me, Body Image in Social Media and the Philosophy Behind Beauty.

As strong advocates for higher learning and women’s empowerment, we created a scholarship program that would help aspiring female students afford the rising cost of tuition. That’s why we’re proud to award the 2016 Girlterest Yearly Scholarship to Icis. Congratulations!

We received many wonderful applications this year, making the selection process extremely difficult. Thanks to all who applied for this year’s scholarship. We’ll see you next year!
