What Am I Doing With My Life?

We all come to points in our lives when we feel like we just don’t have it together at all. You constantly ask yourself, ‘what am I doing with my life?’ And, as alone as you may feel, you must remember that everyone goes through these frustrating times and they’re usually the beginning of a beautiful transformation! So, here are some things to keep in mind during this tough transition point in your life that will help make it a whole lot easier. And, maybe even speed it up a little!

1Figure Out Your Purpose

Life is meaningless if it doesn’t have a purpose. You will never feel truly satisfied merely going through life working a dead-end job, attending meaningless events and parties, and never stepping outside your comfort zone. In order to be genuinely happy, you must find out what you were put on this earth to do. Are you a natural born leader? Does working with children call your soul? Or, are you more of an animal lover and traveller? Having a purpose or a goal will give you a reason to get up in the morning and give meaning to every decision and step you make.

2Think About Five Years From Now

Think about your life five years from now. What do you see? Are you married with 4 kids and a dog? Or, are you a successful businesswoman taking over the film industry of L.A.? Whatever you envision is entirely possible, you just have to keep this vision in mind as you make the decisions in your life. You must remember the only person capable of stopping you from reaching your dreams is yourself. So, keep this vision in mind and keep the negative thoughts away and keep moving forward, girl.

3Don’t Consider Money

When thinking about your future, money should be the last thing you consider. Yes, we live in a society where everything costs money. Life is expensive, but your dreams don’t have to be. There are always creative ways to make money, creative ways to plan around money, and therefore, money shouldn’t ever kill your vision. So, be realistic and know that, yes, things do cost money, but understand that you can make anything a reality if you try hard enough. Dreams are more important than the costs, so do whatever it takes to make them a reality. Whether it means living in a poorer area or picking up an extra side hustle to pay the rent.

4Stay Focused

No dream ever became a reality without a whole lot of focus. Make sure to always keep your eyes on the prize in order to ensure your ideal future. To stay focused, try daily to-do lists and for a more long-term goal, a planner, to stay on track of your goals. Your goals should always have some part in your daily life and routine. They are not something to just think about briefly once a month, they should cemented into what drives you daily. So, by keeping track and making yourself accountable for your tasks, you will see an increase in your productivity. And, it will take you one step closer to your dream life.

5Have A Plan

Everyone has a purpose, but not everyone has a plan. Plans are very important in order to reach your goals and create a life that you are proud of. So, get out a piece of paper, sit down, and start to create a game-plan that will help you accomplish your dreams. Be sure to start small, so you don’t get overwhelmed. What can you do in five minutes before work to help you reach a goal? Or, what can you do before bed or on your daily commute? Little goals are great but, also be sure to see the big picture. By seeing the big picture, you will stay motivated and follow through with the plan you created.

6Cut Out Toxic Time-Wasters

Cutting out toxic time-wasters is a MUST for someone trying to create their dream life. If something or someone is not benefitting you, then it should be erased from your life. This complete life detox is necessary in order to be able to focus, create positive energy surrounding your progress towards the future, and to allow room for personal and professional growth. So, drop the social media accounts if they’re dragging you down as you scroll, or cancel that friendship with Lilly if she only brings you negativity and hardships. And, please, don’t feel bad about it. Negativity has no place in the life of a successful person.

7Take Action

It’s one thing to have a vision and a plan, but it’s another thing to take action. Making decisions, taking risks, and changing paths are all forms of actions that are vital to reaching your goals. It’s all up to you to make your dream a reality. If you stand still and wait for the dream to come to you, you will end up very disappointed. Dreams take work and you have the ability to do it, so just do it, girl!

8Look To Yourself

Always look to yourself to create the life you want to live. There is never going to be a magical genie that pops out of a lamp and grants you the wishes to give you your best life. It’s all up to you to put in the work. You should also never rely upon the encouragement of others. Learn to cheer yourself on and celebrate your mini accomplishments. You’re working hard and you should be proud. You shouldn’t have to hear ‘good job’ from someone else, say it to yourself!

9Pro And Con Lists Are Your New BFF

For every decision and risk on the table, there is a pro-con list that can help a girl out! Making a pro-con list is a great habit to get into in order to organize your thoughts regarding both big and small decisions. It will allow you to make decisions easier and to begin to analyze the things you are doing and see if they are aligned with your goals. It will become a habit to weigh the good versus the bad and it will definitely make you a super pro at making decisions that will benefit your future.

10Be Ready For Growth

A big part of figuring out your life is learning to be open for growth. In every transitional period in your life, you will grow as a person. And, it’s not always easy! Growth can be hard. Change is hard. And, you will probably feel extremely vulnerable at times. But, when you are closed-off to the necessary changes, you will find yourself stuck and unable to move forward. So, put on your big-girl panties, take a risk, and know that it will all be worth it in the long-run.

11No Negative Thoughts

It’s a fact that negative thoughts crush glorious dreams. And, you will never be able to reach goals if you are constantly putting yourself down throughout the process. Have faith in the journey and learn to celebrate goals and take set-backs as lessons and motivation. So what if you failed a test? Take it again! And, this time study harder! You have everything inside of you to make your dreams a reality, don’t make the mistake of holding yourself back with negative thoughts. You can do it!

12Understand Your Emotions

During transitional times, it’s important to pay attention to your emotions and learn to fully understand them. You have to accept your sadness, your anger, and your happiness. No matter what you are feeling, know that your emotions are trying to tell you something. So, don’t ignore them! Learning to accept and understand your emotions will only help you to get your life together more efficiently, make changes accordingly, and be a happier person.

13Be Patient

It’s important to know that reaching your goals doesn’t happen overnight. Creating a dream life takes time. Yes, it’s ok to become frustrated sometimes, but don’t let that feeling linger. It will only hinder the progress you’re making.

14Be Proud Of Your Journey

It’s ok to give yourself a pat on the back and be proud of the progress you are making in creating your dream life! You are doing the best that you can with what you have and it’s important to realize this and not compare yourself to other people and their journeys. Your journey is uniquely your own and you are slaying it!

15Have A Manageable Routine

By having a manageable routine, you will find it a lot easier to achieve your goals in a stress-free way. Overbooking yourself and stretching yourself to the max will only hold you back in the long-run, even if it feels like you’re going in super speed mode. Learn to schedule things like self-care and alone time in order to feel fresh enough for those days when you have to be productive and use your noggin to its limit.
